School Has Started

It’s finally here! I’ve started my Junior year at the University of Puget Sound. My single (!) room is tricked out, I’ve been to day one of all my classes, and I’m even starting to workout regularly. I have a feeling this is going to be a very good year, full of promise and excitement…Ok, maybe I’m overshooting that. I have a feeling this year is going to be fun. I’ve never been more ready to work and truly happy about the classes I’m taking. This semester I’m taking Celtic Traditions (a Celtic Literature class), Advanced Poetry Writing, Biography/Autobiography, and Intro to Writing Fiction. I know, to the naked eye it seems like a semester full of long papers, a ton and a half of reading, and late nights trying to figure out how to write the next Great American novel. Trust me, it’s way harder than that. ;) I’m totally kidding, it’s going to be semi-challenging, but fun and rewarding at the same time. I want to leave my mark on the English department and if that means working till my fingers can’t move and writing till I feel my hand starting to fall off, I will. I want to.

Relaxed

I’m so glad we didn’t have choir today. It was a little weird not singing on a Thursday, but it was nice to have some time to myself without thirty other girls. It’s just been that kind of day. Now I’m going to go to bed in the next hour probably, but until then I’m going to watch some comedy shows. I really want to laugh. Tomorrow in my Intro to Poetry Writing class we are having a poetry reading where we read one of our poems to the entire class. Scary!!!! :) Nah, it’ll be ok. We have had to write two poems so far in class and we have to choose one of them. I have been struggling for about three days to name the poem that I’m going to read tomorrow and I finally figured out a title! It’s been plaguing me for so long and now that I have a title, it’s kind of anti-climactic. I’m calling it “Fallen Rose”. Please, please, hold back your excitement I know it’s just BURSTING out of you. So that’s that. Now, I am going to start, but probably not finish watching “Cats Don’t Dance” because I’ve discovered it’s on instant watch Netflix. YAYAYAYAY!

Day Two

Day two of school is finally over. Today I only had O. Chem and Ecology so I was done with classes at 11am. But I’m going to be honest. It wasn’t that great a day for me. I won’t go into details, but suffice to say I am emotionally and physically exhausted and am going to bed as soon as this post is complete. I learned the hard way this morning though, ALWAYS KEEP YOUR ALARM CLOCK NEAR BY SO YOU WILL ABSOLUTELY HEAR IT GO OFF. I woke up nineteen minutes later than I wanted to, making me almost late to my class and without any food/beverage. Either food or something to drink or both actually can make a big difference and wake you up even a little so you can focus better. Tomorrow I have British Literature I and the Human Experience. So…I get to sleep in! Yay!

Sophomore Year Begins!

It’s a new year people! I am now a Sophomore majoring in Biology and English, Creative Writing. Today I went to three of my four classes, Organic Chemistry, British Literature I, and The Human Experience. I think I’m going to like all the classes even though O. Chem is going to be challenging and require a lot of work. I am living in the sorority house this year in a triple with two friends of mine. The sorority I joined was Kappa Alpha Theta and I love it. We just had our first chapter of the year complete with root beer floats. EVEN IF YOU AREN’T SURE, RUSH FRATERNITIES OR SORORITIES DEPENDING ON YOUR SEX. It is such a great experience and you will meet so many people. Who knows, maybe you’ll even join one! I also auditioned for choir today and I think it went well. It could have gone better, could have gone worse. I sang the song Nuit D’Etoiles by Claude Debussy. I hope a get a callback for tomorrow. Ok, I’m going to bed because I have 8am O. Chem in the morning! Early bird gets the worm I guess!!!!

P.S.

P.S. Our student body president was wearing a superman costume and sang part of Poker Face by Lady Gaga for Midnight Breakfast…I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!

Homework Already!

I have homework already. I know, hard to believe, but it’s true. I can’t believe it myself. I have to read for Biology on Wednesday, complete a French questionare and do some chemistry problems, a little each day. It’s going to be great! However, I didn’t get to some of it tonight which bothers me a little. I got distracted talking to my RA Audrey. So I will for sure do some tomorrow since I only have a Chemistry class and a Biology lab. Yay for small miracles. My Tuesday and my Thursdays are bomb.com because I don’t have many classes. It’s late now and I am fading. Night!

I Survived!

Yes ladies and gentlemen, I did it. I got through my first day of classes. It was difficult running from building to building in ten minutes or less, but I did it. I think all my classes are going to be hard, but rewarding and even fun sometimes! I will have more time to do homework and relax tomorrow because I only have one lecture class and a lab. My Biology professor seems really nice and seems to know the material she is teaching. I’ll probably really enjoy the class then. My French professor also seems nice. I’ll have to speak up in his class, he says he got hearing damage from listening to music too loud in college! My Chemisty professor is a little frantic sometimes, but I’m sure he will mellow out once we really get going in class. My seminar class is going to be a lot of discussion and writing essays, but I think it will be ok. We are watching our first movie for that class tonight. It’s called Amadeus, it’s about Mozart’s life, and it is three hours long. So I am watching it from 7:00 pm till 10:00 pm. WHOA! Now I have some homework to finish up, I’ll go to dinner and then up to the lounge on the first floor of my dorm to watch the movie. Yay!

Classes

I think I mentioned already that I start classes tomorrow morning, but I haven’t told you what classes or when they are. So I will do that now. Tomorrow my first class begins at 9 am. I have Biology 111 at 9:00, French 201 at 10:00, and Chemistry 110 at 11:00 with only ten minutes in between classes. It’s basically just enough time for you to get from building to building. After Chemistry, I have a 1 hour break to get some lunch and then I have a music seminar class at 1:00 pm and my Chemistry lab at 2:00. Then I am done for the day, but it is a LONG STINKIN’ DAY! But here is my advice to you, TRY TO GET CLASSES THAT ARE LATER IN THE DAY RATHER THAN EARLIER IF YOU ARE NOT A MORNING PERSON. There are some people I know that have a chemistry class at 8:00 am. They are going to have such a hard time getting up for that class and may end up skipping it a lot of the time. I wouldn’t be able to handle that. So make sure they are late enough for you so you will be able to make them on time. That is my schedule for tomorrow. I will let you know my schedule day by day and then it will be easy for you to look and match the day of the blog to the day of the week. Ok kiddies, I’m going to sleep!

Classes Tomorrow

Classes officially start tomorrow and tomorrow is my hardest day. I have four lecture classes and a lab. It’s crazy! So many people are telling me how hard this is going to be and I have to say I’m intimidated by the whole process. I don’t want to be the girl who can’t handle it, can’t make the grade, can’t get friends, can’t have fun. I hope I’m not stuck in my dorm room all the time. I don’t think I will be, but I don’t know. The pressure is building inside me. I wish it would just start so I can get on with reality and not try to make up a fantasy of what it is going to be like. I am ready.

I’m Back!!!

I just got back from Hood Canal bonding at 11:45 pm. So roughly forty five minutes ago. I am BEAT! Those counselors work you hard down there. It was really fun taking pictures of sea life and my group jumping around. We found a huge octopus that was dead, washed up on the beach, and fully intact. I took lots of pictures. We also had a lot of bonding time both in groups and with other people during free time. That was nice because I got a chance to spend real quality time with people and not just superficial time. TAKE THE TIME TO REALLY TALK TO PEOPLE. If you don’t, then you will never get to the core of people and healthy relationships won’t develop as easily or quickly. Be honest, be open, and be yourself. Friends will happen in time. That’s what I am learning. All right, this was just to let you know I am back in a dorm room (not a tent)! I’ll tell more when I am a bit more awake.

Out of the Office (Temporarily)

Today at one o’ clock this afternoon, I leave to go to hood canal for “passages”, the camping part of my orientation. I am in the photography group at base camp which will be nice. I have heard though, that the food might be a little sketch. I’m not sure how I feel about that. Anyways, I am letting all the readers out there know that there probably won’t be another post after this one until Sunday because I will be in a place that barely has cell phone service, let alone a computer. Don’t whip out the tissues just yet! I’ll be back I promise with lots of new stories from camp. I will also probably have cool pictures to share. :D YAY!!!!!!! I also bought books today. Another little tidbit for you. My books are ridiculously priced. I won’t tell you, but it is STUPID how expensive they are. Next semester I will try to get all of them used online or just rent them. I will probably never use them again anyway. All right, I gotta go get the books I forgot to get at the book store. Later peeps!

P.S. If you see a poll at anytime, VOTE! I would really like to see the results and what you out there think!

Long Day

Today was a long day because I had advising meetings, a choir audtion, today was also the day I registered for classes! Yay! I am taking biology 111 (including a lab), chemistry 11o (including a lab), intermediate French, and Musical biopics which is my seminar class. My schedule isn’t super busy like I thought it might have been, but that’s ok. I don’t want to be overloaded my first semester. I would pull my hair out. However, I have to get books now for classes, and it is going to be hella expensive. I won’t tell you how much…use your imagination. :-) Anways, I think my first semester will be a good way to jump into college with interesting classes, some choir, and maybe even a few clubs along the way. I get more and more pumped the closer we get to actually starting the school year. I can’t wait! I also saw a hypnotist today with some people from my floor and that was hilarious! I love hypnosis because the things people will voluntarily do are so funny. It was great to watch. All right that’s about it. Night!

Serious Topics & Root Beer Floats

So I just got back from a rape skit which was a serious subject to talk about. The skit was a little jarring, but I think it got the point across which was good. After discussing the skit and what we think about certain issues regarding rape, we went back to the student union building (SUB) and sat through another skit. This one though was a bit more entertaining because it was taking different parts of campus life and setting them to popular songs. Some songs used were, The Circle of Life, Part of Your World, I Need a Hero (from Shrek 2), and others I don’t remember off the top of my head. Needless to say, I was laughing from start to finish. I’ll remember that skit for awhile. After that skit we were served root beer floats in compostable cups (UPS is very green). It was nice to chat with some of the people in my advising goup while eating/drinking a delicious dessert. Some of the kids though were from Hawaii and they weren’t used to this kind of weather. I felt bad for them. Now I am back in the dorm ready to read a little of Eclipse (sorry Twilight haters) and fall asleep. I need the sleep!!!!!

Take Care of “It”

So this is what I have been finding out while having this free day today. If you have a nice block of time where you don’t have to do anything I SUGGEST TAKING CARE OF “IT”. Now “it” can be anything that needs to be done. For me today it was practicing my music for my choir audition tomorrow, doing  a load of laundry (my first at college :) ) and having time to relax without being bothered. I went to breakfast this morning with another girl on my floor named Rebecca (really nice girl), took care of getting the mail, and then went off to do other chores. I am in my dorm room now watching episodes of Dorm Life on Youtube. They are hilarious! The episodes are super exaggerated and tell all about dorm life essentially. All the college stereotypes are there. I’m having a great time watching it. So I don’t have anything like I said until later, so I will be kicking back until a floor dinner at 5:30 (assuming it’s still going on?). Catch you on the flip side!

Free Day

Today is the only day in my orientation schedule where I am not jammed full with events. YAY! There is a skit about the prevention of rape at seven tonight, but other than that I am allowed to do what I please. It will be nice. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF FREE TIME TO DECOMPRESS AND RECHARGE. It’s a lot of stuff thrown at you the first part of college. So if there is time to just relax, totally make use of it. It will help you out so much in the long run. I am going to finish gettign ready now and go have some breakfast. Stay tuned!
