Adelphian Choir Tour

I know this is a little late because spring break was about a week and a half ago, but there have been so many things going that I should probably split them into multiple posts. And hey, that’s more to read for you! :) For spring break I had the opportunity to travel with the Adelphian Concert choir around Washington and into Victoria, Canada. Going to Victoria for the day was the most fun because we sang in the Empress Hotel, on the steps of the Parliamentary Building, and then had the rest of the day and evening to do what we wanted. Some of my friends and I spent some time in the hotel resting (we’d had to wake up at 5am to catch the 8:20 ferry!), then went to dinner at a place near the water. It was beautiful out, but super windy…our hair was blowing all over the place! The rest of the trip was great also, we got to sing in conjunction with some amazing high school groups. All and all it was a wonderful experience. Next up? Maybe a video talking about the trip some more…I have some pictures from the ferry ride over (where it was lovely) and footage from the ferry ride home (where it was rockin’ and rollin’)!

Alumni Tea

It’s that time of year again! Theta is having alumni tea for our sisters that have graduated and gone on to the real world. :) I actually dislike that phrase even though I used it. Just because I’m in college doesn’t make it a fake world. It hasn’t happened yet, it’s at two, but there are at least 23 Thetas coming to see us. We will have tea and coffee and have the opportunity to mingle with the women coming. It will be a great time to learn about their time in Theta and also to network with them. The more people you know, the more choices you could have for job opportunities. I love having the opportunity to talk to these women because it is a fresh face to talk about something you don’t have the ability to talk about with just anybody. Theta has its ritual and secrets, and you can only talk to other Thetas about it. That’s probably what I’m the most excited about. Or at least to hear stories from when they were in college. :)

Theta Initiation!

Our new members have finally been initiated into Theta!!!!! YAY I’m so excited now. This has been a long, but good day. I can’t believe it’s only five, it feels much later. Initiation took about 2 1/2 hours which wasn’t too too bad and it was fine for me because I had stuff to do for it. I wasn’t bored or anything. Now I have to face the music about my homework…I’ve been avoiding it all weekend. Luckily I just have to listen to/read some more of Uncle Tom’s Cabin and look at a data set for my Biology test. My test is on Wednesday in the evening. My poem due this week is author’s choice and I’m pretty certain of what I’m going to read. I hope my small reading group likes it! I’m trying a different style than what I normally do.

No Bowling

Due to a lack of people we have to forfeit tonight so no bowling for me…I’m a tiny bit bummed. :(

Bowling!

I’m so excited I get to go bowling tonight!!!!!! It’s sort of a weekly thing that some Thetas do and I get to be a part of it. I think I like bowling because I’m ok at it and when you get something like a strike you feel so accomplished. Also I get to do the happy dance which is quite the spectacle for everyone else around me. I’m going to finish my take home quiz for Cell Bio and then bowling will be the reward. Also I’m going to see the sketch comedy show on campus tomorrow and then hopefully to an open mic night afterward at a cafe. I haven’t decided if I will actually read any of my work yet…maybe or maybe I’ll just wait until the next time we go. I also don’t know if it’s slam poetry or not. If it’s slam, I don’t write that normally so I will just go to listen. :)

Back On Campus

Spring Break has officially turned into Sprung Break. It’s over and I’m back on campus sitting in bed waiting to go to chapter. It’s initiation week here at Theta and I’m very excited. My spring break was good, being at the beach was very relaxing even though it rained off and on the entire time we were there. I wrote a breathtaking 0 poems which is the exact opposite of what I thought was going to happen. Must be because I was doing so many other things. My mom saw four bunnies down at the beach which is something she lives for when we trek down there so that was nice for her and my dad was able to visit the candy store on multiple occasions. I’m not complaining about that at all, I love me some chocolate peanut clusters or candy legos. I also got a couple new spirals to write whatever I want in. They are more for idea purging rather than for “good work”. I’m excited to fill them with writing. :)

The Beach!

I’m on Spring Break finally! I’ve been home since Friday and now I’m at Cannon Beach on the Oregon coast. I’m really excited to spend four days relaxing and not worrying about school/work/etc. I also hope to write some new poetry down here with inspiration from being at a new location. Tonight we’re going to dinner at an Irish restaurant, but other than that I’m not sure if we’re doing anything real exciting. Currently we’re watching TV in the living room. I can see Haystack Rock from my room, it’s pretty, but enclosed by fog currently. The waves are crashing around also because it’s so windy! Hopefully tomorrow we’ll go exploring around the main drag of Cannon Beach (it’s not very big) and find a journal for a friend of mine. I’ll write in quotes for her…hope she likes it!

The Final Countdown

Yeah, that’s right. The final countdown until Spring Break. This is midterms week and luckily enough, my schedule is not going to be too busy. I have a quiz on Wednesday, a short paper (1 1/2 pages) due Thursday, and a test on Friday. The quiz and paper I’m not too worried about. The test I will be studying for all week because it is for my English class. Although I love the professor and his teaching style, he is a tough grader so I will need to be in tip top form! I’m about to go to Poetry class and I’m excited. There is a “game” on my phone with two dice where you shake it and it gives you a number. I said if it was above six I would have a good poetry class. I got a twelve which means it’s going to be REALLY good. At least that is what my superstitious mind is saying. I can’t wait. :)

Five Days!

Here I am, in bed at 5:30 with books spread out, my laptop plugged into the battery, and watching Veronica Mars. Now don’t get the wrong idea, I did do some homework, but I’m taking a break right now because I’ve read over half the book I’m supposed to read for Tuesday. It’s a memoir in the form of a graphic novel. The real reason I’m writing this is because it’s FIVE DAYS TO SPRING BREAK! I’m really really excited. I also wrote my poem finally. You can check it out on my other blog imaginationrunswild.wordpress.com. I finally settled on a male lion without a pack hunting his prey. Looking online I found that usually the lionesses hunt for a pride, but since this lion is by himself it will be necessary for him to hunt. There is no woman to do it for him. :) I think I’m going to go to bed earlier tonight, I haven’t really been doing anything all day so it will be easier to go to bed. Alright, back to the comics!

Poem Writing

Monday I have a poem due in my Intro to Writing Poetry class. It has to be about any animal if it’s not a pet. I had a few people chime in about what I should write about and I think I’ve decided. I am going to write about a male lion stalking his prey. Interesting no? :) Hopefully I can make it a good one. Have I ever mentioned how much I love writing poetry? I also like listening to it read. We watched a film yesterday in my class about two distinctive poets and they both read some of their work. One of them worked with men in prison which was interesting to watch because he seemed to really get through to them. It also showed how not all people in prison are maniacs or psychotic killing machines. I mean, of course there are some of those, but not all. Alright, off to write the poem. On Monday I’ll get to hear three others besides my own…I can’t wait!

It’s March!

Can you believe it’s March already? It’s blowing my mind that I am a week away from the middle of the semester and Spring Break. SEVEN DAYS!!! I can hardly stand it. It’ll be nice to clear my mind, not have homework (I mean, a bunch of homework), and relax with my parents. We are going to the beach which will be fun and I hope it will be a new scene to inspire some new poetry. I have an animal poem due on Monday in my Poetry class…not sure what animal to write about yet. Suggestions? I already wrote a poem about a polar bear so I want to do something different. Maybe a penguin. Also tomorrow is Friday! YAY! I was supposed to go to a friend’s birthday party Saturday, but he canceled it on account of illness. Major bummer. However it will leave more time to hang out on campus and do homework. Midterms are coming so I should get a jump on my homework for next week! Yikes!!! :)

The Show Is Over

Seriously. Three months of hard work, five shows, and an hour and a half of set takedown. Anything Goes is done. Which on one hand is good because now I will have time for other things like really putting time in on my homework, choir and putting more time into Theta. On the other hand, it’s very sad because this is the only musical that I will do in my college career unless something changes before I graduate. We were sold out every night except for one and that night was still pretty full. I had so much fun being a part of the show and the cast. I met awesomely wonderful nice people who I probably wouldn’t have had I not done the show. It was a great experience and I will remember it for a long time. I also will have these friends for a long time so it was a success all around!

Successful Opening Night!

Last night was such a good show! We were sold out with a great audience that laughed at 90% of the jokes and helped keep us energized. It amped up our energy because we knew they would be receptive to what we were bringing. We wanted to do better to be great entertainers. It was great. I went to dinner with my mom and a couple of her girlfriends who came up to see me which was a blast. We talked for a good two hours. Then I did the show and they watched the show and talked about it after. All three of them loved it and thought I did a good job which warms my heart because I was really trying to be in character and do my best. I think the next few shows are going to be good too. I can’t wait!

Opening Night

Tonight is opening night for Anything Goes! YAY! I think we have a good show, lets just hope everything goes according to plan. Last night was final dress rehearsal and lets just say we had a couple of major hiccups. One guy lost his mustache while onstage and couldn’t do anything about it. We missed about a page of dialogue in one scene because of a missed cue. Just little things that cause a problem for a couple minutes on stage.

I know for a fact though that a screwed up dress rehearsal means a great opening night. It happened during my senior year in high school when we did the Wizard of Oz. I was Glinda the Good Witch which meant I had to be flown in a big metal circle (the bubble :) ). Final dress rehearsal, the flight crew definitely crashed me into the house because markings were misread and judged and then lowered me next to the house which scratched up my fingers as I tried desperately to get onto solid ground. Lets just say it caused the entire dress rehearsal to stop, the director to yell at the flight crew, 30 4-6th graders playing munchkins to become scared for my safety, and my parents (who were in the audience watching) to stress out because they could only look on as it occured. The whole school knew by the next day as well which was just great. But I digress. There wasn’t anything as drastic as that this time, I was just using a seperate story from my own experience to prove a point. The real point is, I’m very excited for opening night. My mom and a couple of her friends are coming up to see it and taking me out to dinner. It’ll be great! SUPPORT THE ARTS AND THINGS GOING ON AROUND CAMPUS. Usually big musicals or operas have been in production for 2-3 months rehearsing and getting everything ready. They are also usually FABULOUS productions so when you see posters for them on campus, go out and support them. They really appreciate it. :)

I’m Back!

I got back to Puget Sound yesterday around 4pm and right as my mom left, I saw my friend Brian in the SUB. He was going to Target and I asked if I could come along. He was with a friend from high school so I got to tag along. It was fun. Afterwards we went to Jack in the Box where I had a soda and a hamburger. We went back to campus and hung out in Brian’s room for a while listening to music and watching videos. Brian and his friend went to the music building to work on music from Rent because they are in a production of it together while I went to my friend Kelley’s room to hang out with her. We were in her room and then went down to the third floor to dance party it up with a couple boys on the floor and another girl. I had a good time and yesterday was a good day. It made getting back into the Puget Sound groove a little easier.
