Weekend Fun!

Last night was the benefit concert at Metronome Coffee, put on by African Alliance and VOX (voices for Planned Parenthood) to raise money for an HIV/AIDS education program in Rwanda. We had a pretty great turn out and from ticket sales plus tote bag sales, we raised roughly $306.75! That’s about 20% of the money needed for the project. Before I went to that, Kappa Alpha Theta initiated seven of it’s new members which was fun and a special experience for those girls. Some may find it tedious, but I always liked to be involved so I find the entire process great.

Now today Theta (including me) is playing mini-golf with Sigma Chi, then I’m going to the combined A Capella concert at 7:30. There are multiple friends of mine that are singing, both in the all male group and all female group. What am I going to do after that? Don’t know, the sky’s the limit!

Busy!

I’m sorry I haven’t been posting as frequently as in the past! Bad blogger!!! :) Lately I’ve been doing a lot of things related to Theta like going to fall formal at the Tacoma Art Museum, mingling with faculty at faculty appreciation, and going to the Repertory Dance Show to support the 200ish dancers (roughly 7-10 were Thetas)! The dances were amazing. I’m always impressed because that club/show is completely student run with only a faculty advisor. It shows how well we students can rise to the occasion. At Faculty Appreciation I got to talk more with my advisor, getting to know her in a less academic setting with a small group of other Thetas. Her daughter was also really cute, playing Life with some of the active members.

Now Theta is getting geared up for initiation week. Initiation is on Friday and we have events leading up to that. Plus, African Alliance Club (formerly Invisible Children Club) is having a benefit concert on Friday also. I can’t wait to go after initiation!

Fame (The Movie)

I just finished typing up my notes for my Ecology test and I studied them for a little bit. Now I’m treating myself to relaxing for a bit of time and then going to run more tests on my frogs for my Ecology independent project. Then hopefully tomorrow I’ll be able to run the stats on the results and finish up the PowerPoint for a presentation that my partner and I have to do in our lab section Thursday. The presentation is supposed to be about ten minutes long…for me that means the presentation will have to be about thirteen minutes long because when I get nervous I tend to talk a mile a minute. I’ll have to keep reminding myself to talk slower. I also have chapter tonight at seven and then after that I might do a little more homework…or I might just go to bed. We’ll see.

Back At School

So I’m back in Tacoma at UPS just in time for classes to start up again. Right now some of my Theta sisters and I are in the living room watching The Holiday with Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, and Jack Black. We’re not very far into the movie, they’ve just switched houses and Kate Winslet has met Jack Black. Jude Law is about to enter the movie meeting Cameron Diaz. I’m not sure if this is the only movie we’re going to be watching…I secretly hope we watch more than this. My big Maddie has so many movies that we could watch them till our eyes are glued open! :) Anyways I have so much to do this week with an Ecology presentation, a lab report for Organic Chemistry and I need to start a couple of papers. Luckily I only have Chem lab to clean up and check out, not to run any experiments which will be nice. I hope then it won’t take the whole four hours. I have other things to do besides lab.

Good Thanksgiving!

Oh hey everyone! I’m just coming down from my Thanksgiving food high. :) My family hosted our entire extended family of about eighteen people for Thanksgiving. It was really fun! A little crazy because there were so many people with so many conversations, but I really really enjoyed it. We broke tradition a little bit and had honey baked ham instead of turkey and it was delicious and easy because you could eat it at room temperature. We also had potatoes, creamed corn, rolls, pie, salad, and brussels sprouts. I basically had all the carbolicious stuff like potatoes, creamed corn, rolls, and brownies. It was also my cousin Riley’s birthday so we got to celebrate that as a big family. It was nice. He’s finally 19!

Snow In Tacoma

It snowed in Tacoma! For reals, on Monday it snowed and then on Tuesday all classes campus wide were cancelled. That made it easier to pack to come home because I didn’t have to worry about going to classes Tuesday morning. Now I’m home for five days to celebrate Thanksgiving! It’s nice to be able to come home and relax for a few days. Plus, my parents surprised me by getting me an early Christmas present…A NEW MACBOOK PRO! That’s what I’m typing on right now! I’m so excited to use it and abuse it (not abuse really). :) They thought it would be nice to have before actually Christmas because we’re coming up on the end of the semester and finals will be around shortly.

I also went to see RDG show (the dance group at UPS) and that was amazing. I loved seeing a lot of my sorority sisters as well as other friends dance. It’s all student run so the choreographers are all UPS students. That was awesome to hear because the dances were so amazing. I’m thinking about possibly doing it next semester because it looked so fun.

Super Storm

Ok so last night we had a HUGE storm in Tacoma with bad winds and rain and all that good stuff. Sound bad? Nah, it was fine! It was more funny than anything to watch people start to freak out over the lights in our living room flickering. People thought the power was going to go out. One of my sisters Gina decided it was her duty to run around yelling and lock all the downstairs windows. How that will help in the event of a power outage I don’t know, but it made her feel better and it was funny so I was ok with it. I went to bed after a while and the power never actually went out. Now today I’m going to go to choir, tomorrow I’m going to work on my experiment for Ecology, and Friday Theta has a function with Alpha Phi. We’re having fondue and I’m quite excited. It’s going to be really tasty!

LO Reunion! …Sort Of :)

Today there were two people that I know from LO visiting UPS. My friend John who I’ve known for a while and been in choirs with was here for Music Day and then another girl Sara who I got to know when doing the Wizard of Oz was here taking a general tour. I got to have lunch with John because he texted me around 9 am that he was here and that was nice. It was a piece of home that came to me instead of me going to it! I got to know the scoop on things going on at the high school too. I didn’t know Sara was going to be there until I saw her getting back from a tour around 1 pm, but it was nice to see her and her mom because I hadn’t talked to her for while.

Now I am in the Theta library working on homework. I have a test in Organic Chemistry tomorrow and two papers due for the same class. I already got one done so now I’m about to continue working on the other. It’s nice because I already have a thesis, I just need to get all the evidence written in and tied to the thesis to prove my argument! Shouldn’t be too bad…just time consuming. Then it’s off to Dorians to sing pretty and then an O. Chem review session. My life never stops, but I love it!

So Much To Say!

Here I am, in the living room. By myself. Partially by choice, partially not. Theta is at formal currently, but I have had a cold for a few days and it was progressively getting worse along with other things. Basically my body hates me, so I bowed out of going to the dance. I didn’t think it would be as fun. However, I never thought I would be alone in a house I share with about 30 other people. It’s actually quite nice, I have the couch to myself, the tv to myself, I can sing without getting weird looks, IT’S GREAT! :) Anyways I also have a couple other things to tell everyone! The Invisible Children came on Wednesday and they brought a speaker named James who is currently a student in Uganda. He spoke about his experiences in Uganda because he lived through and is living through the civil war that’s going on there. It was very moving to hear him and his mentor speak.

On Friday (meaning yesterday) we (Theta) had a function with Sigma Chi. We mini golfed in their house and it was awesome. The Sigma Chi house was turned into a fifteen hole mini golf course for us. I was in a team with three other people and I got second place! It was so much fun because it was so ridiculous…the ball would roll all over the place! Ok…time to go to bed…so early!!!!!

Two Weeks To Finals

I am back at UPS today. It’s the end of the day and I am in the lounge with people working (sometimes) and surfing the internet while watching DVDs of CSI. It’s like I never left. :) I love watching CSI so having these DVDs around makes me never want to leave the lounge. It also is nice to be on campus again. The break was nice and now I am ready to get going on finals. Finals are in two weeks so it is crunch time. Eight days left of classes, two days of reading period, the weekend, and then finals. I don’t think I have a final everyday so that will be nice, but I have a final the last day of the semester which is a tiny bit annoying because I would like to start my break as soon as possible. START STUDYING AT LEAST A WEEK BEFORE FINALS. That’s my plan at least. If I do that then I will get a jump start so I am not cramming during reading period and my stress level would be a lot lower. That is the plan for now. I will try with all my might to stick with it.

Seeing People

Today was the day where I saw a bunch of people from high school all in one place and it was so nice. I missed them while I was in college, because sometimes I act differently around them than I do with people from college since I haven’t known the college people long enough yet. WHEN YOU ARE HOME FROM COLLEGE FOR BREAKS, CHERISH THE MOMENTS YOU HAVE WITH HIGH SCHOOL FRIENDS. Breaks only last for so long and it is good to keep in touch with the people from your past as well as make new friends at college. I really enjoyed spending time with them, swapping stories about how it is for each person at college. I haven’t laughed that hard for that long in a while. It was nice.

Thanksgiving!

Today is Thanksgiving! It’s almost not Thanksgiving anymore since I am writing this so late, but now I can tell you about what happened today. I went to my aunt and uncle’s house at about 1:30 this afternoon to spend time with some of my extended family and also to have Thanksgiving dinner. It was so tasty with turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans, honey glazed carrots, rolls with butter, and creamed corn. I was so full, but it was so good! EAT AND EAT AND EAT WHEN YOU GET CHANCES LIKE THAT. They only happen once or twice a year so get it before it’s gone. It was really nice to spend time with my aunt, uncle, cousins, and grandparents because now that I am in college I see them less and less. One of my cousins is only eight days younger than I am so she and I think similarly/act similarly. It was nice to have her around to toss jokes back and forth and just share stories with one another. It was a new experience going to my aunt and uncle’s because almost my whole extended family which is about 13-15 people have gone to Eastern Oregon for the week of Thanksgiving for thirteen years and we broke the tradition today. Maybe this will become the new tradition. Who knows? :)

I’m Home!

I am home! I’m on break, I’m on break! YAY!!!!!!!!! It is really nice to be home and get away from all the stresses of college and not have to be super duper busy for a few days. I will be home from yesterday (last night) to Sunday which is going to be really relaxing. I went back to my old high school today to visit a couple of teachers, but mostly to visit friends that are seniors or even as low on the totem pole as sophomores. They were really excited to see me. It was a great feeling. I just wanted to add this post real quick, but I have to run! I’m going to see New Moon at 4:30 and I know it’s going to be really crowded! So more later!

One More Day

24 hours. 24 sweet hours until I am on a train home to Oregon. Home to my cat, my parents, my high school friends, a nice bed, a large shower, and a room to myself. I am so giddy with excitement you have no idea. Since my friends from high school go to state schools (in Oregon or elsewhere), they didn’t have a fall break like I did so this will be the first time I’ve seen them in three months. We have tons to catch up about, stories to share about these first few months. So today I have no more classes, no homework for tomorrow. I just have to get through tomorrow’s Chemistry class then a girl from my floor (Amanda) who I think is really nice is going to give me a ride to the train station. At 3:05 (odd time?) my train shall depart from Tacoma and I will arrive in Portland 2 and a half hours later. Can’t wait! Right now I am in this little study area behind the info desk in Wheelock Student Center (also called the Student Union Building) listening to music and just enjoying the time I have to myself. I didn’t want to be stuck in my room, I wanted to be out in the open. So here I am, living life. It feels good.

Sunday = Lazy Day

Yesterday was Saturday and I had the Upstage’m show finally! My parents drove up to see it and everything. It started at 7:30 (sort of :) ) and it was only a half hour to forty five minute show. The show actually came together waybetter than I had thought originally. I guess that shows how hard the cast worked this last week to pull it all together. My parents were very supportive of me and even got me a rose! YAY! It is sitting in an Aquafina water bottle filled up partially with water. COLLEGE KIDS MAKE ANYTHING WORK! No vase? No problem! I have a solution. Also last night I was just hanging out in my room because I was out on Friday night till about 1 in the morning with friends from the cast of the show. IT’S COOL IF YOU WANT TO GO PARTY, BUT IF YOU OVERKILL IT, YOU WILL FEEL REALLY AWFUL. So party for one night and then either tone down the amount of partying the next night or just chill. The body does not react well with extreme lack of sleep. So I was just hanging out listening to music and youtube videos. It was nice.
