Function With G-Phi

The one thing to mention from this past week is yesterday we had a function with Gamma Phi Beta in their basement from 4-6 pm. We had a great time frosting cupcakes with both white and black decorating frosting and covering them with different color sprinkles. It was fun to chat with the girls, mingle, and strengthen interrelations with other Greek houses on the UPS campus. I even got to make a beautiful black and purple heart with my sister Caitlin. It was very nice and it makes me excited for our next function with Pi Beta Phi. We are going to the pumpkin patch and carving pumpkins!

The other thing I should mention is this weekend is Halloween weekend. I personally am not a big fan of dressing up and going out, but I always enjoy seeing everyone in their costumes. So far I’ve heard of people going out as hipsters, a hick, Ke$ha, Brett Michaels etc. I also hope to see some costumes that are super creative too. The imagination can make for a spectacular weekend.

Midterms

I’m sorry, I’m a bad blogger! There isn’t much out of the ordinary that’s been happening to me lately so I guess that’s why I haven’t been blogging as much as normal. This week is midterms week, and it’s not super stressful because I only have one test and one paper due on Friday. It could seem difficult to the unsuspecting reader, but never fear because I know exactly what’s going to be on the test and I have a topic for my essay. I’m working on it! :) Then on Friday I get to come home for four days!!! I’m really excited about that because I love getting away from school for a little while, getting to see my cat, and getting to spend time with my parents. I’ve said it before, but since I’m an only child, it’s only the three of us. It never gets any easier to leave them so it’s nice to come home to them. I’m ready to sleep in a bed twice as big as the one I have at school, have home cooked meals, and not have to worry about all my commitments. I just have to get through two more days. I can do it, no problem.

Concert & Theta Retreat

Saturday was quite the day! I first had formal pictures taken with the Adelphian Concert Choir on the steps of our administrative building (Jones). That was fun, took a little while to get everyone into position though. Then from there we warmed up in the basement of the music building and performed a fifteen minute set of music as part of the High School Honor Choir concert. I enjoyed it because the audience seemed to like what we sang a lot. If that wasn’t enough to do that day, right after the concert was over some of my sorority sisters and I took the 6:30pm ferry from Point Defiance in Tacoma to Vashon Island for a Theta retreat. We got there around 7:15 (later than everyone else), but it wasn’t an issue because we already let people know we were going to be late. Once we arrived, I sat with a group discussing future lives for the group. In essence, we were playing MASH. Then once it was dark enough, about 10 of us went outside and played games in the dark. It was a lot of fun, totally safe. Then we hung out for a little longer, fell asleep, and took the ferry home the next morning. It was quite the 24 hour time period! :)

Function W/ Beta

Tonight Theta has a function with Beta, one of the fraternities on campus. I’m really really excited because it’s a murder mystery game. I get to be one of the clues! It’s also semi-dressy attire so I hope I have something to wear to meet the dress code!

Also my Ecology independent project is starting to come together nicely. We are going to use green tree frogs and study how quickly they can find their prey in only red, blue, or yellow light. My partner is going to get them tonight and I’m excited to take care of them. Yay!

Library Time

This is the first time I’ve seriously been to the library this year. I used to be in here all the time because I was uncomfortable in my room, but now I haven’t had a need. It’s a little weird to be back again in here, but a friend needs my help and it is a good work environment so here we are. I have to finish the rest of a lab report for O Chem and an Abstract for Ecology which is basically the entire lab report crammed into about eight sentences. THE LIBRARY IS YOUR FRIEND IN COLLEGE. There are so many resources the library provides such as all the programs teachers may use that you can’t get on your laptop, a printer (SUPER handy when you don’t have one), multiple librarians to answer questions, online search catalogs etc. The library is lovely. Also, I got an Ecology quiz back today and it was 9/10 so I’m quite excited about that! And I got a card in the mail from my grandparents for Halloween which was super sweet, thank you! A package came for me today too. Do you know what was in it???? My eyeballs! Ok I kid, but really they were contacts which I sometimes refer to as my eyes because I would be blind without them. Yep. So….time to work!

Upcoming Events

Ready to read what is going on in my life? It’s UNBELIEVEABLE in both a good way and bad way. Good way is the majority in this instance. Tonight I have balanced womanhood for my sorority which is where we talk about goals and ways to improve the chapter. I also have choir tonight at five and until then will be working on my O Chem lab report that’s due on Friday in my lecture class. So that’s fun! Tomorrow is a recruitment workshop for Theta, Thursday I have choir again and may try to make it to a function with one of the other sororities Pi Beta Phi (Pi Phi). It is pumpkin carving which should be really fun. We also have an event with one of the fraternities Beta Theta Pi (Beta) which will be a murder mystery game at the Beta house. I’m really really excited for that. IF AND WHEN YOU JOIN A SORORITY, GO TO THE EVENTS WITH THE OTHER HOUSES. I’m not sure about other schools, but for Theta, it’s not required to go, you just get merit points. However, it is nice to bond with the other sororities to stay connected as a cohesive Greek Life. It makes Freshman more likely to go through recruitment.

One more thing…Formal is coming up on November 6th for Theta (Theta is slowly taking over my life no? :) Not really, these things are just fun so I share!) and for this said formal I am still dateless. I’m trying to decide between taking my guy friend or an actual date (aka guy I like)….DILEMMA! I think I will ask actual date and then if he for some reason can’t go etc, I’ll ask guy friend. Done.

Back To Reality

Fall break is finally over. It’s time to get back into my routine. My hair has been cut and looks AWESOME, I love it. My sisters love it also so I’m glad I’m getting so many nice comments on it. I have a lot to do this week/weekend before Monday. I made a to do list and it has 13 items on it still that need to be done by Monday. Now don’t freak out some are superficial like eat and go to choir and shower, but some are legit like doing a take home midterm or a couple of assignments for O. Chem. Speaking of sciences, I got my Ecology test back today and the score was 84/100. That is a solid B which I’m really proud of. I love it when hard work pays off. Ok I better get to crossing things off my list…no more time for chatter! :)

Fall Break Is Here!

Hi! Sorry, I know I left people hanging! I’m way better, got my test of the way and now have four days to relax. I actually knew way more on my test than I thought so there was no need to stress. I just blogged at a vulnerable moment I guess. I’m getting my hair cut and colored tomorrow really short, like almost pixie cut. That’s saying something because my hair is down past my shoulders, almost to my chest. So all and all about 12-13 inches will be cut. That’s a WHOLE FOOT…in case you didn’t know. ;) Anyways I also am getting it colored a little darker than what it is now with some red undertones. It should look sweet! COLLEGE IS THE TIME TO EXPERIMENT AND TRY NEW THINGS. If you are bored with something, change it! After this, you will have to try to blend in with the work place and depending on your job, you may have strict guidelines. So…LIVE IT UP! :)

Weird

I feel weird. I know, that word doesn’t mean much to most people, but it’s like I just don’t want to do much of anything. I think I’m really worried about my O. Chem test and it’s bogging down my whole mood. It’s on Friday at 7:30 am and it’s about things I’m still having a bit of trouble understanding like stereochemistry and nucleophilic substitution. If you’re sitting there scratching your head, it’s ok, it’s complicated material. I have a meeting with my professor tomorrow in the evening after he’s done with lab and I’m hoping that will help. I just am not sure if it would benefit me to study my notes now AND tomorrow after my meeting or just to wait until tomorrow. I’ll probably end up studying them twice. Can’t hurt. IF YOU ARE NOT SURE ABOUT A SUBJECT WITH A TEST COMING UP, SEE THE PROFESSOR!!! They want to help and I would be SO fried without help from professors once in a while. In other news I’m going home in three days and am SUPER excited about that. I think that might be part of my problem too…my brain is clouded by the longing to be home. I hope this feeling of brooding and melancholy goes away. Maybe I just need to be around more people because right now I’m at my desk alone. Thankfully I have choir in about 45 minutes, but I don’t have music because it mysteriously went missing after my concert on Saturday. I’m hoping someone in the other choir picked it up on accident because I had it in the choir room and then it was gone. I’m pretty sure it didn’t just walk away. I think it was a guy and he’ll know if he has a binder full of woman’s choir music instead of mixed choir music. Hey, here’s a tip. Anyways, that’s all for now. Gotta continue watching Veronica Mars until choir. Bye!

Guest Speaker

Today at school is the final day of Greek Week. This is a competition between all the sororities and fraternities and today is the day we go listen to a speaker at 7pm. I’m looking forward to going with my sisters because I believe the speaker will be good. Some of my sisters have said the guy speaking is a really good speaker. Also, I have a paper critique to work on and I’m watching some Veronica Mars right now…I’m really into the show. There’s nothing else going on…but it’s four days till Fall Break! YAY!

Parent’s Weekend & Greek Week

Today I finally get to see my parents!!!!!!!!! I’m so excited to get off campus and see them and catch up on what’s been going on in Oregon while I’ve been gone. I think they’re going to take me up to Seattle for the afternoon/evening and I can’t wait. Just two more classes to freedom with them. Also from yesterday through this Monday is Greek Week. It’s basically a competition between all the sororities and fraternities with different events on every day. Most of the judging is based on participation in the events. Yesterday was a Greek Week BBQ and flag making competition. My house, Kappa Alpha Theta got third place in the competition right in front of Alpha Phi. Pi Beta Phi won for the sororities and Sigma Chi won for the fraternities. Today is philanthropy day so people from my house are going to help out building new furniture for the underpriviliged. Should be fun and rewarding for them!

Two Days!

I get to see my parents in two days for Parent’s Weekend. I’m so excited for Friday to see them and also to be able to get off campus for a while. It’s nice to take them around Tacoma and explore things together. Before that though I have to get through an Organic Chem quiz tomorrow morning, a lab, and a critical evaluation essay…I think I can do it though. :) They’re coming at 1pm on Friday. I’m hoping to go to the store and also maybe the Tacoma Mall because I’ve only been there twice in my whole college experience. Although we don’t have to, I’ll just suggest it. I just turned in today my first essay for British Literature I so I’m pretty excited about that. I hope Professor Curley likes it. It took me the better part of yesterday to write, but now it’s done and I’m really happy with it. Other than that it’s pretty quiet. Just me laughing at Glee and being riveted by Veronica Mars in between bouts of homework. So fun!

Kids Can Do

Tonight is October 30th and our dorm had kids trick or treat through all the dorms as part of the mentoring program Kids Can Do! because these kids wouldn’t have a chance to trick or treat otherwise. It was really cute seeing them in their costumes because that is one of my favorite parts of Halloween. Throughout high school I didn’t go out just so I could give kids candy and see all the costumes. It was nice tonight to get to see. I especially liked a little ladybug who couldn’t have been more than 2 years old. She was super cute with her wings and antennae. So adorable. Tonight will be getting ready for tomorrow basically. I think I am going to hang out in the dorm tonight because tomorrow night since it is actually Halloween, I am going to need more energy than tonight. I think a friend and I are going to a haunted house on campus. I need someone to scream with. :)

Discussion of Harry Potter

I am sitting in my lounge right now with kids from my floor and one guy from a different dorm surfing the internet and having a deep discussion about Harry Potter. We are all giving our ideas and opinions about characters, the books, and the movies. It’s a pretty good discussion actually. Now we have moved on to talking about our favorite books. Oh wait, now people are singing A Very Potter Musical which was put on by the University of Michigan. It is pretty funny, there are a lot of little witty jokes which I really like. Actually it’s really really funny. I’ll have to watch the whole thing soon because I keep laughing which makes me think that if I watched the whole thing, I would think it’s really good. Weird logic huh? :-) Anyways, I’m going to work on some French.

T/P Basement Is Falling Apart

My dorm floor is falling apart at the seams I think. The girls only have one shower right now out of four and there are roughly 35-40 girls on the floor including me. The tv in the lounge doesn’t have cable right now and the first floor tv isn’t working either. Glee wasn’t on because of the stupid World Series. A lot of of people on my floor are stressing out because they are music majors and it requires a lot of work. I am super tired and running on caffeine in the form of coffee (at least 1 daily). I think we have hit rock bottom and it isn’t even November yet. What is it going to be like right before finals? I am a little scared to find out. I also found out that my fridge has to be plugged directly into the wall not into an extension cord or a power strip. The cord doesn’t reach to the wall in its current place. That will be a project for tomorrow when I am not so tired. If you have any suggestions about these problems, feel free to let me know. I would approve.
