Informal recruitment has finally come to a close and the Delta Iota chapter of Theta has eight lovely new members! We’re so excited, lots of girls went through and we are thrilled with our new mems. I am a guardian angel (GA) which means I got a new member as my little devil (LD). Cute huh? I was able to give her a flower pot and goblet, both of which I decorated, and a new shirt. She seemed really excited to be a part of the house. A little overwhelmed, but that’s to be expected when you are welcomed in with a party and about 65 girls, 90% you don’t know. For bid day we welcomed the girls and toasted them with apple cider. Then we went into the basement where we had plain, m&m, and apple cinnamon pancakes, chatted with other active and new members, did a craft project, and danced to music. It was a lot of fun and the craft project was a great idea. Our Recruitment Officer painted the quote “A sister is one who reaches for your hand and touches your heart” onto a canvas, then we painted our hands onto the canvas. It’s now sitting in our basement, waiting to go on the wall in our study room. It looks fantastic.

Friday and Saturday I had the parentals over to school for parents weekend! We had a great time window shopping, going to see Meeker Mansion, and eating…lots of eating.
It was fun to see the house where my ancestors lived because it’s currently in the process of being preserved. Plus I met another Meeker who is the first cousin five times removed. My great great great great great grandfather Ezra (it’s his house) had quite the genealogy! I really love spending time with my family. They’re funny, good to talk to, and great to be around. It makes me excited for Fall Break. Then I get to see them again!
I got back from the overnight Adelphians choir retreat yesterday around 3:30pm and I have to say, it was fantastic! We did a lot for only being there less than 24 hours. We had two rehearsals, one hour each in addition to free time and bonding games. My favorite part was we got to go swimming in a lake for about two hours. The camp director and workers there made the lake very safe by roping off different portions depending on how deep the water was. You also had to wear a life jacket if you went on this structure called a blob (real fun to watch people do) or if you went on a paddle boat/kayak. It was refreshing not to have to worry about school/life, and have the ability to swim/lay out in the sun. My second favorite part was to go around the circle the first night saying our name, year, major, and spirit animal. One girl said hers was a dragon, while another guy told a story of how angler fish mate, but then flipped it around and said his spirit animal of the day was a bat. I loved it.
I made it! I’m officially an Adelphian, a member of the top choir at my school. I got so excited when I looked at the list and saw my name listed as an Alto I. Usually I sing Soprano II, but I felt comfortable during my audition singing Alto I as well so that’s probably why my director put me there. I was a little nervous my first day of rehearsal, but I felt better afterward when all the new members met with the officers and we got cookies with our names on them! Now I’m looking forward to the new member get together on Wednesday and the all choir retreat Friday and Saturday. Until then, I have to memorize a four verse song that all the new members have to do. It’s our only real “task”, but it makes me feel better that I’m not the only one who has to do it. I have two days to learn it…I think I can do it.
My brain is so fried! I had an Organic Chem quiz AND an Ecology test today. I think I did well on both of them, it took a lot of mind power! Now I am treating myself to an Eddie Izzard show that I got from Netflix and I also had some sushi and a cupcake for lunch. It was delicious! MAKE SURE YOU RELAX FOR A LITTLE BIT AND TREAT YOURSELF AFTER YOU’VE TAKEN A TEST OR QUIZ OR TURNED IN A LARGE PAPER. It makes you feel much better and you’ll be happier throughout the rest of the day. It also energizes you for whatever you are doing after. I have lab at 1 so I’m going to be fully ready to tackle that! AND I’m going to be super ready for choir. Yay food and a movie!
My longest day of the week is almost over! The last hurdle is chapter and then I can go shower and to sleep. I did a cool reaction today in Organic Chem lab to take a solid we made three weeks ago and turned it into a new yellow solid. The lab took about three and a half hours to do which is SO LONG. However, I know I know it’s going to help me in the long run. It also is good if I’m there to get the credit/the grade. I really want to pass this class. I am doing well so far, and I want to continue the trend. Better to start on top and try to keep up the good work than to fail at the beginning and dig your way out the rest of the semester. Anyways I have chapter tonight followed by nothing else. I’m watching Veronica Mars right now on Netflix and I really like it. I shall continue now. Bye!
Today after 1pm I will cease to have a life. I have an Ecology lab that is completely stats oriented from 1-5…I’ve never taken a stats class in my whole life. In yesterday’s lab only one person finished in that four hour span. That does not bode well for me at all! At least I did the readings assigned to go with the lab. Then I have Dorians at 5 until 6:20 and a meeting for the Invisible Children club at 7pm. I’m the secretary for the club so it would look really bad if I didn’t show up! So as we speak I’m working on an essay that’s due tomorrow because I know I won’t have much time to do it tonight. I’ve been chipping at it for about three days, but now it’s go time. Gotta put the pedal to metal. IF YOU HAVE HOUR OR TWO HOUR BREAKS BETWEEN CLASSES, TRY TO KNOCK OUT SOME HOMEWORK. That way if the rest of your day is super busy, then you won’t be so worried about it at the end of the day. I’m hoping that works for me right now!
Hi! I still would love to hear your thoughts about whether or not you would read my new blog, but I made one anyway. If nothing else, it will help put all my writing in one place. Here’s the link:

Ok, this is about poetry. Don’t you make a face at me! I really want to start another blog on wordpress that is solely poetry that I’ve been writing for the past few years. I’m just wondering if anyone would read it…so I need just a teeny bit of feedback. If I posted pretty regularly poetry I’ve written, would you read it? Or am I just wasting my time. That’s totally possible and I want you to be honest. Don’t know if I’ll listen, but I appreciate the honesty.
Anyways that’s about it for now. Nothing really new on the college front!
First O. Chem test out of the way…WHOA! It was ok, took a lot of brain power, but I knew most of the material. We’ll see what happens when I get the grade back. It was a hard test, taking me the whole time (one hour and twenty minutes) to finish it. I checked my answers in that time too which was good because I found an error! Yay, points back for me! I also went to the study abroad fair in the SUB and got some brochures about programs that would interest me. I would really like to go to England, Australia, or New Zealand. I have a one on one meeting with a woman in the International Studies office a week from tomorrow so I’m hoping to have a good discussion with her about my options. Other than that, I’m hanging out and doing homework until I have to go to choir at five. Yay choir!
Hi! It’s the end of the weekend so I thought I’d write a post. This week is going to be crazy I think because it is informal recruitment for Theta. IR is for sophomores, juniors, and seniors who want to rush a certain sorority, but don’t want to do formal recruitment. Tomorrow is s’mores and I’m really excited for it. Should be delicious! And good to talk to a bunch of girls interested in Theta.
I also have Organic Chemistry lab tomorrow and I’m a little concerned about that. I hope there is going to be a lot of discussion about what to do in lab tomorrow. Otherwise it’s going to be a long lab day!!!!!
Today I decided to venture off campus and went to the little district near school called Proctor. As we speak I’m sitting in the Starbucks writing my Materials and Methods section for Ecology because it’s due on Monday. I also spent an hour studying for an O. Chem test that’s on Tuesday. I’m actually being pretty productive and I’m enjoying it. I figure if I get some stuff out of the way now I can enjoy my weekend more. I’m also going to go to the store (Metropolitan Market) which is a couple blocks down the road because I don’t have any food left in my room. I ate all of it…weird right?
I think it’s a bit of an issue that I like to eat so much because it leads to my food shelf becoming BARE! Gotta get a handle on that. Anyways I have roughly four things due either on Monday or Tuesday so I wanted to get a jump on it early. IF YOU KNOW YOU HAVE A TON OF HOMEWORK THAT WILL TAKE A TON OF TIME, START EARLY. It seems so obvious, but sometimes we get caught up in activities or parties during the weekend and then Sunday rolls around and we still haven’t started our homework. Letting that happen leads to frustration and stress so I say avoid those two emotions at any cost. It’s more beneficial to spread homework out over the course of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Today I was done with class at 11am and I read things for classes tomorrow for about three or four hours. Ok, DON’T READ FOR LONG SPANS LIKE THAT BECAUSE IT’LL TIRE YOU OUT/MAKE YOUR BRAIN MUSH. At least that’s what happened to me. I was alone for too long and so I got into this weird funk where when I was around people I just wanted to be alone and when I was alone I just wanted to be around people. I didn’t know where to go! Anyways I have a breakfast date with my friend Ana tomorrow around 9:15 and class starts at 10am for me instead of 8am. Yay! I love getting to sleep in a little bit. So now I am watching a comedian named Anjelah Johnson to relax and then I’m going to bed. She’s really really funny. If you have ever seen the “Bon Qui Qui” video on Youtube, she’s the girl playing Bon Qui Qui. Now I’m going back to it. Bye!!!!!!
Today is the retreat for the all women’s choir I’m in, Dorians. It’s from 1-6 which is quite long, but it’s for us to get to know each other a lot better and become a closer choir. Returning members have to wear their Dorians shirts from last year, so that’s what I got on! I think it’s a good idea, I just wonder if we could accomplish everything in say three hours instead of five. It’s ok because I’ve done most of my homework already. I just have to finish up reading the rest of Beowulf for my Brit Lit I class and do a discussion post for The Human Experience. I did the O. Chem stuff yesterday. I’m excited to sing today. Also on a side note…27 days till parents weekend and 33 days till Fall Break. YAY! I love sharing my college experience with my parents because I know it makes them happy to know that I’m doing well.
